The Blue Ridge Parkway Photo Diary

January 20, 2016 by Amy Johns in Travel, USA, The South

The Blue Ridge Parkway runs for 469 miles through North Carolina and Virginia connecting Shenandoah National Park in Northern Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. Growing up nearby, the Parkway was like the great weekend escape, the quickest route to stunning views, long hikes or just plain old back-road drivin'. On my most recent road trip from Atlanta to Fincastle, Virginia, I hopped on the Parkway outside of Chimney Rock, North Carolina. I was able to stop and make the short one mile hike to explore Linville Falls. Though the thick fog forced me to abandon my route somewhere in Virginia, I was able to capture a few rainy day photos in downtown Roanoke, Virginia and at the Hotel Roanoke, situated right off one of the most famous sections of the All-American Road, Skyline Drive.

When planning my trip I used the Blue Ridge Parkway website, specifically the sections which detailed the experiences by mileposts in Virginia and North Carolina.
